FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a “Jury Duty Scam” that several citizens have reported since Friday.
The Sheriff’s Office Communication Center has received several reports about a caller posing as an officer with the sheriff’s office.
According to reports, they inform the victim has missed jury duty and needs to pay fines over the phone, or they will face jail time for contempt of court.
The individual(s) are using technology to change the caller ID to make the victim believe that it is actually coming from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office has confirmed this is a scam. In the press release, the sheriff’s office states legitimate court employees or law enforcement will never call to ask for financial or personal information.
They are asking anyone who receives a call like this to contact the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office to validate the claims.
