(WTAQ) — A man was taken into custody after a standoff on Patriot Way in De Pere.
On Thursday at about 8 a.m. De Pere police responded to the 1700 block of 76 Place for a report of an intoxicated adult male holding a female against her will and threatening to harm her with a firearm.
The female was able to get out of the house on her own and report the incident to police. She also reported to officers that the male was still armed in the house and believed to be highly intoxicated.
Because the male was believed to be armed and refusing to exit the home, officers requested assistance from the Brown County SWAT Team armored Bearcat vehicle and a K-9 unit as a precaution.
A shelter in place message was sent to nearby residences and a nearby school as a precaution, and a De Pere Rescue squad was staged.
De Pere officers contained the male in the residence and additional officers from the Brown County Sheriff’s Department arrived with the Bearcat armored vehicle and additional SWAT Team Resources.
Members of the De Pere Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were able to make phone contact with the male and attempted to convince him to exit the residence peacefully. After a lengthy standoff, the male finally complied and exited the residence whereupon he was taken into custody without further incident.
No one was injured, and the shelter in place notification was lifted once the situation was stabilized.
De Pere Police Chief, Jeremy Muraski stated, “We are thankful that our officers were able to respond and quickly contain the threat presented by this individual and are relieved that no one was harmed during this incident. The Crisis Negotiation Team officers performed exceptionally during this situation, greatly contributing to a positive outcome. The De Pere Police Department would also like to thank the De Pere Fire Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance during this incident.”
The scene was cleared before 10 a.m.
