FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Police say a deadly crash Friday in Fond du Lac was caused when a driver “intentionally swerved” his vehicle into the path of a motorcycle.
Mark Snider, 67, of Fond du Lac, made his initial court appearance Wednesday on charges of second degree reckless homicide and first degree recklessly endangering safety with use of a dangerous weapon. Online court records show a $100,000 cash bond was set.
The crash happened March 28 shortly after 7 p.m. in the 600 block of South Main Street. Initial investigation showed a vehicle and motorcycle collided. The victim, who died from his injuries at the hospital, has been identified as 26-year-old Elijah “Eli” Sowin.
After collecting and assessing evidence and interviewing witnesses, investigators determined, “the driver of the passenger vehicle intentionally swerved into the path of the motorcyclist, causing the motorcycle to crash into the driver’s side of the vehicle.”
Snider, the driver of the vehicle, was then arrested. Chief Aaron Goldstein said in a news release:
This was not an accident, but a deliberate and dangerous act that led directly to the death of a young man from our greater Fond du Lac community.
Reckless driving, especially actions intended to harm or endanger others will not be tolerated. This tragedy could have been avoided.
We are dedicated to ensuring that those responsible for crimes that endanger public safety are held accountable for their actions. Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
