GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Rezhun Scott was sentenced Tuesday to two and a half years in prison for driving Sienna Pecore away from the scene of the fatal traffic crash she caused.
Pecore was 15 at the time of the Oct. 30, 2022 crash on W. Mason Street which killed Cruz Beltron. She had taken her mother’s car without permission and was driving more than 100 mph just before the crash. She was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Scott, 23, pleaded no contest Tuesday to a charge of aiding a felon in connection with the crash, plus to counts of bail jumping and resisting. Other counts, including being party to hit and run involving death, were dismissed.
Scott was also placed on extended supervision for three years by Judge Donald Zuidmulder.
Beltron’s mother, who was not identified by name in court, said she forgives those involved in her son’s death, but wants the “justice and closure” that her family deserves. She did ask for the maximum sentence available.
Before the sentence was issued, Scott apologized for the incident.
“I want to apologize to Cruz’s family for what happened in October of 2022, and I want to tell you guys that I’m sorry for being there and causing that,” Scott said.
According to the criminal complaint, Scott was driving separately from Pecore. After the crash, Rezhun drove her to his apartment, where she stayed the night. He’s identified in the complaint as her boyfriend at the time.
Scott told police he saw the crash, and that he and others tried to help Beltron.
“Scott claimed that he didn’t know that Sienna and (another passenger) had got into his car until after he started to drive away Scott reported that he then did have contact with Sienna’s mother by text and made arrangements for her to pick up Sienna. Scott stated that he didn’t want to get involved and that he didn’t want to be accused of kidnapping Sienna so that is why he contacted Sienna’s mother,” the complaint states.
