(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) NEW YORK – Marquette University men’s lacrosse men’s lacrosse sophomore attackman Carsen Brandt is the BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Peter Detwiler and Bobby O’Grady are on the league’s weekly honor roll.
Brandt scored a career-high four goals and tied a career best with six points in a 13-8 win over St. John’s on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields. The native of Edina, Minnesota scored his first of the day just 1:33 into regulation and capped the game with two late fourth quarter scores to seal the win. He also forced a pair of turnovers against the Red Storm clear in the opening quarter as the Golden Eagles caused six failed SJU clears in the first half.
The recognition is the first weekly honor of the season for Brandt, who was a two-time league freshman of the week in 2024 and the offensive player of the week on Feb. 12, 2024.
Detwiler scored his first goal of the season in the opening quarter and helped limit the Red Storm to just one goal over the final 21 minutes of regulation. The junior captain posted new career bests of five ground balls and three caused turnovers to earn the first BIG EAST weekly honor of his career.
O’Grady notched his third four-goal game of the season and added an assist for five points. His third goal of the afternoon with 11:27 left in the third quarter stood as the game winner and pushed him into a tie with John Wagler (2016-19) for second in program history with seven career game winners.
The senior has earned three BIG EAST weekly nods this season and is MU’s all-time leader in both points (165) and goals (134).
The Golden Eagles resume league action on Saturday, April 5 against No. 14 Georgetown at Valley Fields. MU is off to its best nine-game start to a season (6-3) since 2017 and is on its first four-game winning streak since that year.
