(UW ATHLETICS) MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball team (22-12, 6-4) took down the Iowa Hawkeyes, 7-5 on Saturday, completing a series sweep in the Badger’s first week at their home stadium.
Wisconsin rode a big fourth-inning to victory, putting up five runs in the bottom of the frame.
Tied 2-2 after the top of the fourth, Wisconsin began its big inning with an RBI double from Ellie Hubbard, giving Wisconsin its first lead of the day. Emmy Wells then layed down a bunt that scored Dani Lucey from third, narrowly avoiding the tag with her slide. Alivia Bark drove in Wisconsin’s third straight run in as many at-bats with a double of her own.
The Badgers poured in two more runs in the inning, scoring off an Iowa wild pitch and an error, making the score 7-2 Wisconsin.
The Hawkeyes went on to cut the deficit, one run in the fifth, and two in the sixth. Pitcher Gabi Salo got out of those jams, however, and closed the door with a one-two-three seventh inning.
Salo (11-5) collected the win, pitching 5.0 innings in relief, and giving up three earned runs. Jordan Felci started the game for Wisconsin, but ran into trouble in the first inning, allowing Iowa to plate two runners. Molly Jacobson finished out that inning, and pitched a clean second inning as well.
After trailing 2-0, Wisconsin came back into the game in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, Molly Schlosser collected her fourth and fifth RBI of the series with a two-RBI double that knotted things up at two apiece.
For the series, the Badgers plated 19 runs in three games.
