(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) ROCHESTER, Mich. –The Green Bay softball team picked up its first Horizon League win of the season on Thursday, splitting a doubleheader at Oakland. The Phoenix took game one by a score of 8-1 while dropping game two 4-2.
GREEN BAY 8, OAKLAND 1
The Phoenix scored early and often, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Sara Ebner, scoring senior Bella Herman from second base.
Green Bay built on their lead in the third inning when Emma Krueger’s run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Green Bay scored twice, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Phoenix.
Green Bay held Oakland scoreless before expanding their lead to 6-0 the following inning. The Phoenix picked up three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-RBI double from Krueger, and the other coming from a Paige Hanson RBI single.
The Golden Grizzlies put a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth before the Phoenix responded with a two-RBI double in the seventh from Brook Schwall. GB starter Genesis Eggart held the Oakland offense in check once again in the seventh and secured the 8-1 win. The lefty pitched a complete game, allowing just one run and four hits while striking out five.

» Ebner went 3-for-4 to lead the GB offense.
» Krueger also went 2-for-4, driving in three runs.
» The Phoenix power output was led by Sidney LaMotte, who had two extra-base hits in the ballgame.

OAKLAND 4, GREEN BAY 2
Despite picking up eight hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Oakland, Green Bay was unable to push across more runs, as the Phoenix fell to the Golden Grizzlies 4-2 in game two.
The Golden Grizzlies scored first with a big second inning, scoring four runs off of Phoenix starter Ava Schill. Green Bay responded with two runs in the fourth thanks to a two-run homer from LaMotte. However, the GB offense was unable to bring any more runs across.
Megan Weiss was a bright spot for the Phoenix, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
At the plate, the Phoenix was led by sophomore LaMotte, who went 2-for-3 and two RBI. Kendal Herschbach had a noteworthy game at the dish as well, going 2-for-4.
