NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) UTICA, N.Y. – St. Norbert College’s season came to an end at the hands of No. 6 Utica University in a NCAA Division III Tournament Quarterfinal, holding a 3-2 lead going into the third period before the Pioneers scored three unanswered to down the Green Knights 5-3 at Utica Memorial Auditorium.
The Green Knights (24-6-1) found the back of the net first, with Brock Baker scoring at 3:17 on an unassisted goal. The Green Knights held the lead for most of the period before Utica scored an equalizer at 19:10 to make it 1-1 after the first period.
Calvin Hanson put St. Norbert up once again at 3:19 in the second period, coming off assists from Baker and Curtis Hammond. Carter Hottman scored the Green Knights third goal of the game at 15:15 of the period, with Liam Fraser and Logan Dombrowsky combining on the assists to take a 3-1 lead with less than five minutes in the frame. However, a goal at 16:16 from Utica shifted the momentum in favor of the Pioneers with St. Norbert still leading 3-2.
In the span of less than two minutes, Utica took its first lead of the game with goals at 8:06 and 9:49 in the third period to lead 4-3. Despite St. Norbert outshooting the Pioneers 12-9 in the period, Utica scored its fourth unanswered as time expired on an empty net to end St. Norbert’s season in the quarterfinals.
Baker finished with the lone multi-point game, scoring one goal and providing one assist for two points.
St. Norbert was outshot by Utica 38-27. Hunter Garvey made 33 stops for the Green Knights, while Utica’s Ryan Piros made 24 saves.
