Mark L. Plagemann (Manitowoc Co. Jail)
MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Mark Plagemann was placed on probation for six years for a series of thefts of copper wire, using the money for drugs.
Plagemann, 43, previously pleaded no contest to two counts of theft of movable property.
In court Wednesday, Plagemann was also ordered to complete drug counseling classes. A final restitution amount has not been set, court records show.
According to the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department, the three-week investigation looked into thefts of copper wire.
According to the criminal complaint, a company in Meeme discovered “a significant amount of electrical wire used to power the company’s concrete plant was cut and removed from the location sometime between October 2, 2024 and October 3, 2024.”
On Oct. 9, there was a theft of electrical cable from a second location.
A check of scrap metal sales records showed Plagemann sold 552 pounds of copper wire in Milwaukee a few days later.
“Plagemann admitted he came to Manitowoc County and committed these crimes on three different days, consistent with the surveillance cameras and information learned during the investigation. Plagemann admitted he was using narcotics that cost $50/pill and used the money to purchase additional narcotics. Plagemann did not show remorse towards the victims and stated he “fell back into his bad habits.”,” the complaint states.
