Marquette rallies to beat Xavier in Big East Tournament

(247NEWSSOURCE) NEW YORK, NY – Fifth-seeded Marquette rallied to an 89-87 victory over fourth-seeded Xavier in the Quarterfinal Round of the Big East Tournament from Madison Square Garden.

Kam Jones netted 28 points as the Golden Eagles outscored the Musketeers 53-41 in the second half.

Golden Eagles coach Shaka Smart says the tourney is always about close games.

Jones said the team had good flow.

Smart talked about Friday’s matchup against St. John’s.

Marquette battles top-seeded St. John’s in the semis on Friday.

Ryan Conwell led all scorers with 38 points as Xavier finishes its season 21-and-11 and hopes to slip into the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday.
