HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The future of the former UnitedHealth Care campus – which could be turned in hundreds of housing units, plus other retail development – will be discussed at two meetings Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, work removing interior elements of the building is already underway, as a large pile of debris can be seen outside the structure.
Built in the early 1990’s the former United Healthcare building in Howard once housed more than a thousand employees. Back in 2020 as more of its employees starting working from home, the health insurance company decided to downsize, leaving the more than 300,000 square foot office building vacant.
T. Wall Enterprises, a developer out of the Madison area, bought the site for $4.5 million. It is proposing a variety of housing options, along with retail space and community areas. The entire project, done in phases, could result in $300 million in new construction. The first phase would include two apartment buildings with 102 units.
The village plans to create a Tax Incremental District to help fund infrastructure projects at the site, including sewers, sidewalks, incentives to the developer, and other items. Two meetings are scheduled for Monday.
At 4:30 p.m., the Joint Review Board will “Review and discuss draft Project Plan,” according to the agenda.
At 5:30 p.m., the Plan Commission will hold a public hearing and then vote on the creation of a Tax Incremental District to assist in the project’s funding.
Both meetings will be at the village office, 2456 Glendale Ave.
