APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — Appleton residents are being offered the opportunity to learn more about their city.
Applications are now being accepted for the Appleton Engaged – Resident Leadership Academy. It’s a free ten week program where participants will learn what it takes to operate a local city government efficiently, and how government services are provided to residents.
Formerly called the Citizens Academy, the program first began in 2019. This year, the City of Appleton renamed the program based on previous participant feedback and to better align with its mission.
Participants will get an in-depth look at all 14 departments within the city; through presentations, tours, and hands-on experiences.
Anindita Anaam, Communications and Public Engagement Manager for the City of Appleton, says participants are always surprised how much they learn.
“The water treatment plant is one of the biggest draws,” said Anaam. “Sometimes people think the fire or police department would be the biggest draw, but the department of public works and the water treatment facility really stole the show.”
However, this year participants can also look forward to seeing the ins and outs of the newly renovated Appleton Public Library and Valley Transit facility.
The deadline to apply for Appleton Engaged – Resident Leadership Academy is February 20.
