MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Hundreds of people rallied outside the Wisconsin state Capitol Wednesday morning to protest a variety of policies from the second Trump administration.
The Madison protest was one of many protests held across the U.S. Wednesday related to the 50501 movement. The numbers symbolize the goal of having 50 protests in 50 states for one day.
There was no single entity leading the protests. Various social media accounts and websites affiliated with the movement describe it as decentralized and built by regular people.
In Madison, protesters could be seen holding signs reading “resist fascism,” “Project 2025 kills democracy,” and “Musk has taken over America.”
Julie Mankowski, a protester from the greater Madison area said, “We are the ones who decide who holds those offices. It is a trust, and if they’re breaking that trust we won’t allow it.”
Protesters came from across Wisconsin to join in the protest. Bryce Luchterhand came from Unity, Wisconsin about 160 miles northwest of Madison.
“This is the first protest I’ve been on in years,” Luchterhand said. “I don’t make it a habit to protest, but quite frankly if I get any opportunity to protest the Trump administration I will be there.”
