(GREEN BAY ATHLET(CS) ROCHESTER, Mich. –A Thursday night showdown with the Oakland Golden Grizzlies didn’t go the way of the Green Bay men’s basketball team, with the Phoenix falling on the road 68-54.
Foster Wonders led the Phoenix (2-21, 0-12) with 16 points while Mac Wrecke helped out with seven points and six rebounds.
Oakland had three players finish in double figures, with DQ Cole leading the way with 18 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes played.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half of Thursday’s game was very close, with neither team holding more than a four point lead. Green Bay trailed by four at 26-22 before a 5-0 run with 1:53 left in the first half, culminating in a three from C.J. O’Hara, to take a 27-26 lead. Oakland responded with a three before Yonatan Levy hit a midrange jumper with time expiring in the first half to tie it up at 29 all heading into halftime.
The game was decided in the first seven minutes of the second half, as the Golden Grizzlies outscored the Phoenix 19-1 in that stretch to take a 48-30 lead. GB worked to chip away at that lead but could only cut it to nine after a Preston Ruedinger three with 6:40 to go. Oakland then built their lead back up en route to their 68-54 victory.

The Phoenix will look to bounce back on Saturday when they head to Detroit Mercy for a 12 p.m. CT game against the Titans. Detroit Mercy downed NKU at home tonight by a score of 68-57.
