(WTAQ-WLUK) — The Fond du Lac Blades, a synchronized skating team that is representing the United States this weekend in France, will be dedicating one of its weekend performances to the victims of the plane crash in Washington D.C.
14 figure skaters are among the victims of the Wednesday evening crash between an American Airlines passenger jet and a U.S. Army helicopter, which killed a total of 67 people.
“Our hearts are breaking after the tragic crash that took the lives of Team USA athletes and friends,” a statement from the Fond du Lac Blades reads. “US figure skating is such a tight community that a tragedy like this affects all of us. As we represent TEAM USA this weekend at the French Cup, we are dedicating our long program to the victims.”
The team’s long performance is set to Beyonce’s “Halo” song.
U.S. Figure Skating put out a statement of its own, confirming several of its members were on the flight after a camp in Wichita, Kansas.
Twenty ladies are part of the Fond du Lac Blades team performing in France, ages 13 through 19 years old.
The team has been on the international stage many times, including two weeks ago in London.
