DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A 12-year-old De Pere girl who was battling a rare form of cancer has died.
According to the Hope for Hadley Facebook page, Hadley Baker, a seventh grader in the Unified School District of De Pere, passed away surrounded by her family and friends.
She had been fighting rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer, for more than 18 months.
It was Friday when Hadley was flown home by a medical flight from the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami after having surgery.
Hadley’s mother had said her daughter’s condition “deteriorated dramatically” and she just wanted her to be home with her family and rest comfortably.
Hadley gave it her all these last few days in true Hadley style and was surrounded by her family and close friends the entire time. She was at peace and in the arms of her sisters Lily and Macy at the time of her passing.
Before her passing, the community and her supporters tried to give her a chance to take part in opportunities she wouldn’t get to experience. In October, Hadley got to attend De Pere High School’s homecoming dance and earlier this month, as a member of the basketball team, she received her very own varsity letter.
The family went on to write Wednesday:
Hadley is the definition of strength and will continue to live on in all of our hearts. May we all remember her ‘never give up’ attitude and that All it takes is all you’ve got.
