DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – St. Norbert College is in the process of additional faculty layoffs, although the final determinations for who or how many have not been made.
The college is using what’s known as “retrenchment,” where faculty positions can be terminated for “financial reasons and/or program discontinuation,” according to an email from the school.
“The next step of the retrenchment process involves the Vice President and Chief Academic Officer sharing her carefully developed recommendations with potentially impacted faculty members. Next, these individuals have the option of seeking Faculty Personnel Committee (FPC) review of the recommendation prior to the VPCAO submitting her final recommendations to the President,” the college stated.
A timeline for those decisions was not shared.
“We remain committed to supporting all community members through this transitional period and will continue prioritizing transparency and a culture of care for our colleagues throughout the process. Our focus is on sustaining academic excellence rooted in faith and service, advancing student success, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the College as an educational ministry of the Catholic Church. Please visit the ‘Preserving the Legacy’ page on our website,” said Valerie Martin Conley, Vice President of Academic Affairs.
The Catholic college laid off workers twice in 2023, with 53 people losing their jobs.
St. Norbert leaders say enrollment has declined 14% over the past 10 years.
