MAUSTON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A $5 million cash bond has been set for the man accused of a triple-homicide in New Lisbon.
Virgil Thew, 47, appeared at the Juneau County Justice Center for a bail bond hearing Friday.
Online court records show Thew is facing three charges of first degree intentional homicide — one of which has a domestic abuse enhancer — as well as three counts of hiding a corpse. He is also charged with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, taking and driving a vehicle without consent and a misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing an officer.
If Thew posts bond, he is not allowed to have any contact with the family members of the victims. An initial appearance is scheduled for Feb. 13.
Thew was arrested Thursday in the small city of Elroy after being on the lam for more than a week.
Officials say the case began in late December, when the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department asked the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office to help them find a missing juvenile. Police say the missing juvenile from Monroe County was picked up and last seen with Thew.
The next day, while searching for the juvenile, the New Lisbon Police Department was made aware of a second missing juvenile in their jurisdiction. Hours later, on Dec. 29, two juveniles and an adult female were found dead inside a New Lisbon home in the 300 block of W. Bridge Street.
The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as 33-year-old Elizabeth Kolba and two females, ages 12 and 13.
Police have not confirmed whether the two girls found dead inside the home were the juveniles reported missing, nor have they said what Thew’s relationship was to the three victims.
