(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) OMAHA, Nebraska –The Marquette University women’s basketball team dropped a road contest at Creighton, 71-68, on Wednesday night at D.J. Sokol Arena.
The Golden Eagles (10-5, 2-2 BIG EAST) were led by Lee Volker, who had 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Jaidynn Mason had a Marquette career-high 18 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Creighton went on an 11-3 run in the last two minutes and 46 seconds of the second quarter to be up 11 at the break.
Marquette got the lead to single digits five times in the third quarter and went into the final frame down eight. MU cut the deficit to six at the 8:59 mark of the fourth quarter before the Bluejays went on 10-2 run over the next three minutes.
The Golden Eagles went on a 6-0 run to make it a three-point game with 1:15 left.
Creighton (13-3, 5-0 BIG EAST) were led by Morgan Maly, who had 28 points on 10-of-11 shooting.
NOTABLES:
- Marquette shot a season-high 56 percent from the floor.
- First time this season an opponent shot 45-percent-or-better from the field.
- Wednesday was the first and only regular season meeting between Marquette and Creighton. The BIG EAST plays an 18-game conference schedule.
