MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A woman who told police she worships “Santa Muerte” – the saint of death – and that the saint gifted her all of the cars in the world, was arrested after allegedly stabbing the owner of vehicle who confronted her for stealing license plates.
Blanca Perez-Hernandez, 48, was arrested on possible charges of first-degree reckless injury and first-degree recklessly endangering safety for the incident Tuesday. Formal charges have not been filed.
Perez-Hernandez appeared by video from the jail for the bail hearing Wednesday. She was often animated, including making what appeared to be a stabbing motion eight times as Court Commissioner Patricia Koppa read the requested charges.
Perez-Hernandez said she could “handle everything herself” and didn’t need a lawyer. She discussed traveling back and forth to the United States from Tijuana and Guadalajara, Mexico. Although arrested on Tuesday, Perez-Hernandez complained about being in jail for three days without food or water.
One of the victims in the case urged a high cash bond, saying she needed 10 stitches and may require surgery for nerve damage.
Commissioner Koppa set bond at $7,500 cash. Perez-Hernandez returns to court Monday for a formal initial appearance.
According to the probable cause statement, police were called by someone who was being threatened by Perez-Hernandez. She later told police she was defending herself but security cameras support that she initiated the confrontation.
One person was slashed with the 6” knife and another was threatened, the statement says. The victims said they didn’t know Perez-Hernandez, the police report says.
