NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Neenah police released the name of the man who died in a fiery crash while his one-year-old child was alone in a smoke-filled apartment.
Police say 22-year-old Justin Hartjes crashed into a tree in the 800 block of South Park Saturday night.
Hartjes was removed from the vehicle and taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
During the investigation, it was believed that Hartjes’ one-year-old child could be inside the vehicle but Hartjes was the only occupant.
Officers went to Hartjes’ Cecil Street apartment several blocks from the crash site and found the child alone in the apartment. The residence was filled with smoke due to food burning in the oven which was left on.
The child was not injured and released to a family member.
