(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) MENOMONIE – St. Norbert College saw the second half of its regular season opener with a 6-2 loss to UW-Stout in a non-conference game at Fanetti Community Center.
The Green Knights (12-2), ranked No. 2 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, fell behind 2-0 after the first period after the Blue Devils (6-5-1) got goals from Noe Perrez at 3:54 and Jake McAlpine at 12:11.
St. Norbert would score early in the second period when Byron Hartley (pictured) netted his fourth goal of the season 2:47 into the stanza. Stout would wrest control back its way with a Jacob Halvorson goal at 8:50 followed by markers from Nicholas Stevens at 10:47 and Sam Kroon at 14:18 for a 5-1 lead through two periods.
Halvorson scored again at 4:01 of the third period for a 6-1 lead. St. Norbert closed out the scoring with a Liam Fraser goal, his 14th of the year, at 6:40.
Hartley added an assist to his goal for the Green Knights’ lone multi-point game.
Stout outshot St. Norbert 30-28. Hunter Garvey made 14 saves in the first 34:18 of the game, while Vaughn Makar made 10 saves in 25:42 of relief in his St. Norbert debut. Tyler Masternak made 26 saves for the Blue Devils.
St. Norbert was 0-for-2 on the power play, while Stout was 2-for-4.
