(WTAQ-WLUK) — U.P. Brothers Anders and Davin Lindwall are behind the upcoming film “Green and Gold.”
The brothers partnered with the Packers and Culver’s’ “Thank you Farmers Project” to bring the movie to life.
It was filmed locally in various locations in Door County, including The Blue Ox and Florian II Supper Club. Crews also shot some scenes in Green Bay, with Lambeau Field as the backdrop.
Set in the early 1990s, “Green and Gold” follows struggling fourth-generation dairy farmer Buck (Craig T. Nelson) trying to save his family’s land, and his granddaughter Jenny (Madison Lawlor), an aspiring musician with big dreams who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a famous singer.
To save the property, Buck” bets on the 1993 Green Bay Packers to win it all.
“Growing up just north of Green Bay as the grandson of a dairy farmer and die-hard Packers fans, my brother Davin and I poured our hearts into this film. It’s our tribute to small-town communities and the values they stand for,” Anders Lindwall said in a news release.
Nelson (who fans may recognize from his roles in “Parenthood”, “Coach” and “Young Sheldon”) said people who grew up in the Midwest around multi-generational family farms will be able to relate to the film’s story.
“I felt a real connection to it, because the Nelson family farm has been a working farm in South Dakota since the Civil War, and my wife’s family were also farmers,” Nelson said. “‘Green and Gold’ captures the tenacity of small-town farmers and the strength of family and community. I was honored to play Buck and highlight the dreams defining many lives in America’s heartland.”
Wisconsin comedian Charlie Berens, creator of the Manitowoc Minute, also makes a cameo in the movie.
The movie opens in theaters nationwide on Jan. 31. Click here to reserve tickets.
So far, the film has won numerous awards at various film festivals nationwide. It is set to be released in theaters Jan. 31.
“‘Green and Gold’ portrays the story of Packers fans’ devotion to legacy and community — it is a must-see,” said Justin Wolf, the Packers’ director of corporate partnership sales and activations. “We are proud to be part of a story celebrating supporting one another and showcasing the critical role that family farms play across our great state of Wisconsin and beyond.”
The star of the movie, Nelson, will be in Titletown this weekend. He will sing the national anthem at this Sunday’s Packers-Bears game at Lambeau Field.
