WRIGHTSTOWN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wrightstown superintendent Andy Space announced his early retirement, to begin as soon as next month.
The Wrightstown Board of Education says Space’s early retirement will be effective at the end of the first semester, January 17, 2025.
In submitting his letter to retire, Space noted, “After spending time with family and reflecting over the Thanksgiving break, I have decided to retire from my role as superintendent after the current school year. This was a difficult decision to make, but it’s one that is in the best interest of me and my loved ones. I want to thank our amazing teachers and staff, families, board members, students, and community members for making my time here so special”.
The board wrote in its commitment to full transparency, his decision comes amid allegations concerning superintendent contractual matters, school purchases, open meetings law issues, legal counsel issues, board / staff relations, and insubordination which were under review. Those matters were being reviewed by an outside law firm raising questions from the community about legal fees at several of the last board meetings.
In accepting the retirement, the Board also entered into a Retirement Agreement with Space that resolves the year and half remaining on his contract, end the current review of concerns and further costs, pays severance to Space and eliminates and further potential litigation between the parties.
Throughout this process, the board worked with legal counsel to ensure that all matters are handled in full compliance with applicable laws, policies, and ethical standards.
“We respect the superintendent’s decision to step aside during this time and remain committed to maintaining the transparency and accountability expected by our community,” said Angela Hansen-Winker, Board President. “We believed it best to now focus back to the many positive things occurring within our school District”, she added.
The Board is working to appoint an interim superintendent to oversee district operations and sustain a focus on academic excellence and operational stability.
