KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — All year round, the Community Benefit Tree, a non-profit organization in Kaukauna, supports families who are struggling with medical debt due to suffering from any sort of medical crisis.
“It’s the number one cause of bankruptcy in the nation,” says Djuanna Kath, the organization’s executive director.
For 20 years they’ve been supporting local families, and on Saturday they worked to bring holiday joy and extra support to them.
Community Benefit Tree hosted its Secret Santa Sip, Snack and Shop event, which featured a visit from Santa himself, raffle drawings, cookie decorating, crafts, and of course snacks and shopping at the organization’s thrift store.
“When people shop today the funds that are made support those families here at the organization,” Kath says. “With our thrift shop, our families that are needing assistance, some of them have their items here in the store for sale so when you purchase items you’re helping that specific family. We also have items that are donated from the community and that goes into our general fund to help all of our families.”
Saturday the organization was also collecting essential items, so families in need don’t need to worry about purchasing those items.
Kath reminds the community that the thrift store is open all year round, and they’re always looking for volunteers to help support their mission.
