(UW ATHLETICS) MADISON, Wis. – Ryland Mosley’s game-tying goal with 19 seconds left in regulation helped the Wisconsin men’s hockey team tie the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves, 1-1, on Saturday night at the Kohl Center.
The game was silent until Alaska Anchorage (2-10-2 Independent) tallied a power-play goal with 26 seconds remaining in the second period to take a 1-0 lead. Wisconsin (5-8-1, 3-5-0 Big Ten) remained relentless, putting up 45 shots on goal during the contest, and Mosley was rewarded with 19 seconds left in the third period when he scored his seventh goal of the year to send the game to overtime. Neither team found the back of the net during the extra time and the game ended as a 1-1 tie. Wisconsin scored twice and made two saves to win the exhibition shootout, 2-1.
How it Happened
The first period was quiet, with neither team lighting the lamp. Wisconsin had three power-play opportunities in the period but was unable to convert on any scoring chances.
The game remained scoreless until 26 seconds left in the second frame when Alaska Anchorage’s Ryan Johnson scored on the power play to make it a 1-0 game.
Wisconsin applied pressure in the second, putting up 14 shots on goal, but it remained unable to find the back of the net.
As time wound down in the third period, Wisconsin pulled goaltender Tommy Scarfone and had an extra attacker out on the ice. With 19 seconds left in regulation, graduate student forward Mosley scored to tie the game for the Badgers. Junior defenseman Ben Dexheimer passed from the middle of the zone to sophomore forward Quinn Finley at the top of the right faceoff circle. Finley skated to the top of Seawolves’ territory before making a long pass to Mosley at the front of the net, who tipped it past UAA goaltender Tyler Krivtsov to send the game to overtime.
During the five-minute sudden-death overtime period, Wisconsin had five shots on goal but was unable to find the back of the net as the game ended as a tie.
In the exhibition shootout, senior netminder Tommy Scarfone made two saves and Finley and Mosley scored to give the Badgers the shootout win.
Wisconsin went 0-for-4 on the power play and 0-for-1 on the penalty kill. UW finished the contest with a 45-15 advantage in shots on goal.

Straight from the rink
Head Coach Mike Hastings
On the team’s offensive effort tonight
“I told the guys when I walked in the locker room, I’ll take that effort. … There’s a lot of positives there, finding a way to score 6-on-5, having the overtime opportunities that we had – we’ve struggled at times in overtime and we’ve tried to work on that.”
On Ryland Mosley’s game-tying goal
“I think Mosley does a great job of having the net front covered, and if you look at the replay of the goal he’s sitting there for a while. Finley does a great job not panicking and making a hockey play as a hockey player, so we needed someone to do it at that time.”
Graduate student forward Ryland Mosley
On his game-tying goal
“I was just trying to get to the back door and be available for a rebound or something like that. Finley made a great play and saw me there. It was a great pass – I just kinda got my stick on it.”
Graduate student forward Owen Lindmark
On his success in the faceoff dot tonight
“I just try to take ownership in the faceoff circle. Being in my sixth year here, I think that that’s probably the strongest area of my game, and I take a lot of pride in any chance I can get to help the team out. That was in the faceoff circle tonight.”
Up Next: The Badgers continue their four-game homestand with a series against conference-rival and No. 1 Michigan State on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. on both nights.
