(ST. NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) – DE PERE – St. Norbert College fell to its first defeat this season, dropping a non-conference contest with UW-Eau Claire at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center 84-75.
The Green Knights (3-1, 1-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) traded the lead with the Blugolds multiple times in the first half, with neither team being able to maintain a large lead over the other. Back-to-back three pointers from Jamison Nickolai and Jaeden Grade (pictured) gave St. Norbert a 18-16 lead in the middle of the half after trailing by four.
The Blugolds were able to extend their lead to two or more possessions on several more occasions, but a 6-0 run from St. Norbert to end the half only gave Eau Claire a three-point lead at the half.
Early three pointers from Nickolai and Brandt Wilson in the first few minutes of the second half gave the Green Knights their first lead since 6:26 left in the first. However, the St. Norbert lead was not able to be an extended one as both teams jockeyed for position to take control of the game.
A Grade jumper tied the game at 55 with 12:13 to play, but it would be the last time the Green Knights would be able to keep the lead within reach. Three of the four ensuing possessions for the Blugolds resulted in Eau Claire making it from beyond the arc gave the visitors a seven-point advantage with less than ten minutes to play.
The Green Knights were able to cut the lead back to five points twice but could not get enough consistent baskets to cut the lead further.
St. Norbert shot 50.8 percent from the floor (30-for-59) and made 11 three pointers while shooting 39.3 percent (11-for-28) from beyond the arc. The Green Knights were outrebounded 33-32 by Eau Claire. Nickolai nearly recorded a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Aidan Harrington scored 16 points, while Garrett Grzesk finished with 10 points.
Eau Claire shot 47.4 percent (25-for-57) from the field. Andre Renta led the Blugolds with 20 points, while Cade Hall recorded a double-double with 11 points and rebounds.
