(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) PISCATAWAY, N.J. –The Marquette University women’s basketball team defeated Maryland Eastern Shore, 74-48, on Saturday afternoon to win the Battle on the Banks hosted by Rutgers.
The Golden Eagles (4-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) were led by Skylar Forbes, who had 18 points, eight boards, two blocks and two steals. Forbes averaged 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds over the two games and was named Battle on the Banks Most Valuable Player.
Halle Vice had a career-high 15 points, five boards and two blocks. The sophomore forward earned all-tournament team honors after averaging 11.0 points.
Marquette stormed to an 18-4 lead after the first quarter and went on a 17-0 run in the middle of the third quarter with nine points coming at the free throw line. The Golden Eagles led by as many as 32 in the second half.
Maryland Eastern Shore (4-5, 0-0 MEAC) was led by Brianna Barnes, who had 18 points and three boards.
NOTABLES:
- Ninth time in program history Marquette has gone 2-0 over a holiday tournament.
- Bridget Utberg tied her Marquette career-high with eight points.
- Abbey Cracknell had a career-high seven points and two steals.
- Kennedi Perkins had her first career start at Marquette in place of Jaidynn Mason (illness) who missed the contest.
