(WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fond du Lac man was convicted of playing a role in a fentanyl overdose death of a woman who was in recovery.
Adrian Santiago-Hernandez, 41, entered a no contest plea and was found guilty of first degree reckless homicide, as a party-to-a-crime and repeater, from an August 14, 2023 fentanyl overdose in Fond du Lac. Bond was revoked for Santiago-Hernandez and a status conference has been set for Jan. 21, 2025, at 3:30 p.m.
According to the criminal complaint, Santiago-Hernandez went with the victim to buy cocaine and heroin from his source, co-defendant, Larry Plummer, 45.
The victim and Santiago-Hernandez smoked and snorted the drugs in her car and the victim drove home.
At home, the victim’s mother said her daughter was acting not like her normal self and appeared “out of it,” the complaint reads. The victim went to take a nap and after a few hours, the victim’s mother went to check on her. The victim’s mother told investigators her daughter appeared to be struggling to get air so she got her husband and other family members to try and wake her before calling 911.
Using GPS and cell phone data, investigators were able to connect Santiago-Hernandez and Plummer to the case.
The victim’s mother told investigators her daughter had been sober for about 11 months before the overdose, the complaint reads.
Co-defendant Plummer, has a status conference scheduled for Dec. 19.
