NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Life in prison with no possibility of parole for a man who fatally shot a Milwaukee transgender woman and set her apartment on fire.
34-year-old Cordell Howze of Neenah spoke briefly prior to being sentenced Monday.
I truly apologize to the community, to the courts, Cashay’s family, even the youth. Because everybody’s affected by the community, and what they see on the news and what society brings to our attention.
Judge David Swanson said Howze’s motives remain unclear.
While you have now accepted responsibility, it is still a crime, I think, for which no adequate explanation has been made. One of the theories is that you were, you wanted to kill a trans person. That might be what happened.
A jury convicted Howze in May for the fatal February 2023 shooting of 31-year-old Cashay Henderson, which Swanson described as “an execution.”
She was shot in the back of the head and her body set on fire.
