(UW ATHLETICS) MADISON – The Wisconsin women’s basketball team had a dominant 95-68 win in their season opener Tuesday night at the Kohl Center. This was the most-ever points the Badgers have scored in a season opener.
Serah Williams had a stellar performance with a 29-point and 12-rebound double-double, the 23rd of her career. Starting point guard, Ronnie Porter, nabbed a career-high 19 points in her first campaign showing.
The Badgers kept the lead for 38:53 minutes with Wright State only taking the lead once early in the first quarter. UW had the lowest amount of turnovers since 2022, with 7.
Wisconsin outscored Wright State 21-10 in fast breaks, while shooting an efficient 45.6 percent from the field.
Tess Myers, a graduate transfer from Duquesne, finished with a season-high 12 points and was 3-of-5 from the arc in her Wisconsin debut.
Williams kicked off things early scoring the first six points for the Badgers, going on to net 15 in the first half.
UW had the offensive momentum throughout the game, going on a 12-5 scoring run just before the break giving the Badgers the 43-32 halftime advantage.
Keeping the pace to begin the second half, Williams scored the first 4. Ronnie Porter was a prominent player in the third going 4-of-5 from the field and 2-of-3 from the three-point line.
Towards the end of the third, the Badgers went on a 7-0 run extending their lead to 73-51. The 30 points put up in the third was the fourth most points in a quarter.
Halle Douglass showed her experience on the court tonight putting up 8 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
Up next, the Badgers continue non-conference play with a home showing against Georgetown on Sunday, Nov. 10. Tip is set for 4 p.m. (CT) inside the Kohl
