APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — If there’s one thing Wisconsinites know how to do, it’s survive the cold months of winter.
So who better to help out victims of Hurricane Helene as the cold weather approaches than people from Wisconsin?
Saturday, the community came together in Appleton and New London to collect cold-weather clothes to send to those in hard-hit areas of Appalachia.
Organizers also gathered donations to help build shelters and tents for those who now find themselves without a home.
“We are going to take everything that we can clothing or otherwise, Orton Trucking in New London has donated a truck, and we are going to load a semi up on Monday morning and they are going to head down to North Carolina immediately and I have people waiting down there that again desperately want to distribute the clothing,” says Paul Crowe, the drive’s organizer.
Crowe says the goal is to gather enough donations to help them build at least 100 temporary shelters.
