(UW-GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) GREEN BAY, Wis. – For the second straight day, the Green Bay volleyball team downed the Northern Kentucky Norse at the Kress Center, this time in five sets. The Phoenix fell behind 2-1 but won sets four and five to sweep the regular season series against NKU. Green Bay is now 8-6 in the Horizon League.
Cora Behnke led the Phoenix offense by matching a career-high 23 kills while accumulating a hitting percentage of .298. Danilynn Schell added 14 kills and Diane Pichelman chipped in with 10 to lead the Green Bay attack. Defensively, GB had four players reach double figures in digs, highlighted by Abby Gardner’s 21, 19 from Calli Gentry, and 16 more from Kendall Schara. From the front row, Olivia Neumann contributed a career-high six blocks. Gentry finished with her third straight double-double, adding 51 assists to her 19 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Green Bay had fallen behind in the first set, 18-14, when they rattled off an 11-2 to close the first set to take the frame 25-20. GB had five aces in the first set which proved pivotal.
SET 2 | NKU bounced back in the second set thanks to an impressive offensive showing, racking up 14 kills on a .250 hitting percentage. The Phoenix on the other hand finished with 10 kills on a .139 hitting percentage. The Norse led most of the way en route to their 25-22 set win.
SET 3 | Green Bay fell again in the third set to make it a 2-1 deficit, falling by a score of 25-20. The Northern Kentucky offense was again the difference-maker, finishing with 13 kills and a .300 hitting percentage.
SET 4 | Green Bay broke their two-set losing streak and forced a fifth set with a dominant 25-16 victory in set number four. The Phoenix grabbed control of the set at 6-5 and held the lead the rest of the way. Green Bay ended the set on a high note by opening up its biggest lead, nine points, to close out the set, collecting 16 kills in the process.
SET 5 | Green Bay completed the comeback in set five with a 15-12 set win. Both offenses came to play in the fifth, with GB slightly outhitting NKU .348 to .333. GB never trailed throughout the set.

ON THE HORIZON
Next weekend the Phoenix is hitting the road for their final regular season road games. GB will travel to Indianapolis to take on IU Indy on Friday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
