(WTAQ-WLUK) — Katrina Baur entered a not guilty plea in Manitowoc County court Wednesday to charges related to her son’s death.
Baur, along with her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, are facing charges related to the death of Baur’s three-year-old son, Elijah Vue.
Baur is charged with chronic neglect of a child causing death as well as resisting or obstructing an officer. Vang is charged with physical abuse of a child, repeated acts causing death, hiding a corpse and resisting or obstructing an officer.
During her arraignment, Baur’s attorney also asked if Baur could regain contact with her daughter. The judge granted this request only if it’s in compliance with the CHIPS (Child in Need of Protection and/or Services) order.
The criminal complaint says Baur sent her son to live with Vang in Two Rivers for “disciplinary reasons.”
Vang reported the child missing on Feb. 20.
Baur and Vang were both jailed soon after Vue went missing on child neglect charges related to the condition of the home and treatment of the boy.
Months later, on Sept. 7, a man preparing his land for hunting season found human remains on private property near the entrance of Camp Manitou, a Girl Scout camp. The remains were later confirmed to be Vue.
Doctors, who examined the boy’s remains, determined the toddler suffered from physical abuse, psychological and emotional maltreatment, as well as neglect. Healed fractures on Vue’s skull and face were also found by doctors.
The child neglect charges against Baur and Vang were dropped and replaced with the more serious charges.
Baur will be back in court Feb. 12 for a scheduling conference.
Vang’s preliminary hearing will be held Nov. 6.
