(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) DAYTON, Ohio – The Green Bay volleyball team was unable to bounce back from Friday night’s win, falling to Wright State on Saturday 3-1 (25-23, 13-25, 14-25, 24-26). Green Bay is now 6-5 in Horizon League play, good for a fifth-place spot in the HL.
In her second match back since Oct. 1, Cora Behnke finished with 14 kills to lead the Phoenix offense. Abby Gardner finished with 21 digs to lead the Phoenix defensively, while Emma Best also had 12.
The freshmen duo Olivia Neumann and Diane Pichelman each finished with five blocks each. Calli Gentry finished the afternoon with 33 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The first set was highlighted by runs, with the Phoenix going on two 4-0 runs, while Wright State went on two 5-0 runs of their own. Tied up at 23 all, the Phoenix went up 1-0 after a Danilynn Schell kill and Raiders’ attack error.
SET 2 | Wright State bounced back and made quick work of Green Bay in the second set, taking it 25-12.
SET 3 | Green Bay fell again in the third set to make it a 2-1 deficit. Wright State once again controlled the set from the start, winning the frame 25-14.
SET 4 | It looked like the Phoenix would force a fifth set, but unfortunately fell 26-24. GB held a 24-22 lead late, but WSU responded with a 4-0 run to close out the set and match.
GAME NOTES
» Gardner finished with 20+ digs for the third time this season.
» Wright State outhit Green Bay .240 to .124.
» Reilly Zegunis led Wright State with 18 kills on the day.
ON THE HORIZON
Green Bay will head to Milwaukee on Tuesday for a matchup with the Panthers at 6 p.m. Next Friday and Saturday the Phoenix will host Northern Kentucky.
