GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Packers debuted their latest look at Lambeau Field Sunday.
Plenty of fans got into the spirit as well, as the team had its ‘Winter Warning’ game.
The cheesehead faithful turned white cheddar as the Packers took down the Texans.
“I think (Jordan) Love, and the younger generation has helped bring this team into the future, and I’m all about it,” said Alex Davison, a Packers fan from Denver, Colorado. “Yeah, the whiteout, we never would’ve done this. 10 years ago — this never would’ve been a game. Never.”
It may not have felt like the frozen tundra, but fans who came prepared with their white threads on say they like the teams new look.
“Man, it’s awesome. I really liked it. I think, you know It’s something different, you know, white helmets. I wish they had a stripe down, like a gold stripe , but it’s cool,” said Laquinte Warren of Milwaukee.
Some fans did agree the date of the whiteout was an interesting choice, given the warmer than usual fall day.
“I was telling my family too, I was like Winter Warning?! It’s 78. It’s coming, sometime,” said Davison.
“It’s a little weird, but for us coming from Houston it’s actually kind of cold so I guess it’s appropriate,” said Ryan Gierke, a Packers fan who came from Texas.
But, the Packers wanted to ensure their Winter Warning game wouldn’t overlap with any other gameday promotion during the season.
“we didn’t want to back it up against Salute to Service, or our, you know, Cancer game, or our kickoff game. We wanted to really give it it’s own day and this was the day that was available,” said Gabrielle Dow, Vice President of Marketing & Fan Engagement for the Green Bay Packers.
The uniforms take inspiration from the team’s all-white color rush uniforms, which the Packers debuted in 2016.
For the Packers, it appears the theme could continue in the future.
“It is part of our closet, we will be celebrating it year to year and considering the fans out there in white, I’d think it’s caught on,” said Dow.
Packers officials also hinted there could be a new throwback uniform in the works.
