(WNFL/LEARFIELD) – Fans of college basketball were stunned when Wisconsin native Tony Bennett announced his retirement effective immediately from the University of Virginia head basketball coaching position.
Bennett said that he was thrilled for the opportunity and the chance to prove himself.
Bennett said that what happened was beyond his wildest expectations.
Bennett said that they wouldn’t have accomplished all of their successes with the players and coaches.
Bennett said that it was tough to come to the realization that he is no longer the best person for the job.
He said that the current format of players making money isn’t working.
Bennett said that this is no longer the climate for him.
Virginia opens its season its season in less than 1 month.
