FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fond du Lac man pled guilty to his role in a fentanyl overdose death.
Joshua P. Weber, 47, is charged with first-degree reckless homicide, party to a crime.
The charge stems from a fentanyl overdose death that occurred on Christmas Day in 2020 in the city of Fond du Lac.
On Dec. 28, 2020 officers were dispatched to a residence on Sherwood Avenue for a suspected drug overdose. Upon arrival, the victim was found deceased. Suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia were discovered in the residence, as well as a Narcan package that was unopened, the complaint reads.
During the course of the investigation, it is believed the victim passed away on Dec. 25, 2020 and remained in his residence until he was discovered a few days later.
Autopsy results showed the victim’s blood contained 6.4 ng/mL of fentanyl and 6 ng/mL of norfentanyl.
A search of the victim’s phone found text messages between Weber and the victim. A few of the unanswered text messages from Weber to the victim on Christmas Day indicated the victim passed out.
According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 25, Weber drove the victim to Milwaukee to buy drugs from a person Weber knew.
In exchange for driving the victim to Milwaukee to buy heroin, the victim offered to give some of it to Weber.
“Weber also stated he didn’t recall how much heroin they received and that it was probably fentanyl, not heroin,” the complaint reads.
The Narcan package located near the victim belonged to Weber, police said.
A sentencing date has been set for January 27, 2025.
