KIEL, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — First responders in Kiel were called to a garage fire and a serious injury crash within two hours of each other Monday.
Shortly before 5 p.m., the Kiel Fire Department and Ambulance Service was dispatched to 623 2nd Street for a report of a detached garage fire with smoke and flames showing. When crews arrived, they immediately deployed hose lines and began a fire attack from the exterior that advanced to the garage’s interior.
The fire was under control in approximately two minutes. Although firefighters remained on scene to investigate the origin of the fire, a cause is currently undetermined. No injuries to residents or responders were sustained. No damage estimate is available at this time.
Less than two hours later, just after 6:30 p.m., crews were at the fire station putting away equipment used in the fire response when they were called to a crash at the intersection of 6th Street and Paine Street between a motorcycle and a truck.
Based on their initial assessment, first responders determined a medical helicopter was needed. Kiel Fire & Rescue set up a landing zone and patient care was transferred to ThedaStar for a higher level of medical treatment. Officials say the patient’s condition is currently unknown.
