(WTAQ-WLUK) — A former Keshena man has been sentenced to prison for drug and gun crimes on the Menominee Reservation.
50-year-old Anthony Brown, Jr. pleaded guilty in June and was convicted of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. He received an eight-year federal prison sentence Friday and will spend five years on supervised release at the completion of his sentence.
Authorities say on January 1, investigators with the Menominee Tribal Police Department observed Brown engage in a hand-to-hand drug transaction in the parking lot of a business on the Menominee Reservation. He was subsequently arrested and searched.
Officers seized more than 15 grams of cocaine, approximately $4,400 and a loaded .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun with Brown’s DNA on it.
Two weeks later, on January 15, Brown was arrested again “after being found passed out at the wheel of a car stopped in Keshena.” Officials say he had cocaine on his person.
A search warrant at Brown’s home led to the recovery of 380 grams of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and packaging, ammunition, a Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun and a ledger containing names, amounts and prices.
According to a news release, investigators also seized numerous items that Brown agreed were proceeds of drug activity, including $7,000 in cash, several high-end vehicles, a sport bike-style motorcycle and 216 pairs of luxury shoes. These items were ordered forfeited as part of Brown’s sentence.
Brown has previous convictions for drug trafficking, the judge noted at sentencing.
