APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Two more suspects in the theft of $38,000 from a Kaukauna ATM were ordered Thursday to stand trial.
Jesse Duque-Escobar and Manuel Pina-Gonzalez are charged with being party to the crime of theft of movable property for the July 5 incident at the Unison Credit Union.
The others charged are Adonay Dalis-Ramirez, Johamnel Ortz-Sanchez, Yeniaker Avila-Acevedo, and Andres Escobar-Rodriguez.
Kaukauna Police Det. Matthew Kohl testified Friday at separate preliminary hearings. Arraignment dates were not immediately set.
Security video captured images of several people in two vehicles “repeatedly accessing the ATM and manipulating it, then removing a large amount of cash, approximately $38,000.00,” the complaint states. The thieves had staged in a nearby parking lot, then made 48 trips to the ATM. The credit union suspected the thieves had a master key, a small gold key with a rounded base and teeth on both sides. Police later pulled over two vehicles seen on the video, and arrested the six, the criminal complaint states.
All of the suspects had various forms of Venezuelan identification.
Avila-Acevado was convicted earlier this week, and was sentenced to three months in jail.
Previously, State Rep. Dave Murphy, R-Greenville, raised the possibility the six may be part of the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, which has been connected to crimes across the country. However, Kaukauna police said they could not confirm the suspects are in that gang. The criminal complaints make no mention of the gang, either.
