OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A significant renovation or complete reconstruction could be coming to South Park Middle School in Oshkosh.
It’s just one option in the Oshkosh Area School District’s long-range facilities plan.

On Monday, district families and community members shared their thoughts in the second of seven community feedback sessions.
“We really want to be able to invite the community out to learn about the things that are on our plan, and then to be able to get feedback — specifically around what we do at the South Park site,” said Superintendent Bryan Davis. “We’ve got a couple different options, so we’re really looking to collect feedback over the next couple months.”
Davis said the referendum also includes the option to consolidate middle schools within the system.
“That gets us more efficient, down one less building to run, and because of our declining enrollment across the system we think that that’s the best way to go,” he told us.
Davis said the first feedback session provided valuable insight.
“I would say, early on the tendency has been to say, if we’re going to spend a significant amount of money on a middle school, probably the tear down and build up is the better way to do it, but that’s really something that needs to be played out with a bigger sample size than what we had at one community session,” he explained.
Community member Mallory Schneider Birschbach told FOX 11 the meeting gave them much needed clarification.
“Project what the referendum is going to cost, the consolidation of schools, and also more specifically for my own child and student within OASD, what we’re looking at for his potential future in the schools that are going to be consolidated,” she said.
Superintendent Davis said the goal is for the second phase of the plan to go up for a referendum vote in April.
“The school board will review all of the feedback, and then they’ll be making some decisions based on the feedback in probably December and January,” he said.
