GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Brown County leaders released the third and final part of a three-part series outlining the results of their work to combat opioids and fentanyl.
According to a news release on the matter, after a pair of Brown County drug investigators were assigned to work with the Brown County Drug Task Force they have investigated 24 drug related deaths. Of those deaths, 12 individuals were charged with First-Degree Reckless Homicide. Another 2 individuals faced charges in federal court.
During the first three quarters of 2023, Brown County reported 43 accidental drug deaths. In that same time in 2024, the county reported 15 accidental deaths, which is a decrease of 65% year-over-year.
Brown County’s Drug Task Force seized 1,772.44 grams of fentanyl between the first three quarters of 2023. They saw a marked increase of 614% during that same time in 2024, seizing 12,659.64 grams of fentanyl.
