(WNFL/LEARFIELD) – The Milwaukee Brewers lost 2-1 to the Pittsburgh Pirates in Pittsburgh on Wednesdsay.
That loss combined with the Philadelphia win over the Chicago Cubs ended the Brewers’ chance of catching and passing the Phillies for the second-best record in the National League and earning a first-round bye in the National League playoffs.
Instead, the Brewers will host an Wild Card game on Tuesday against either the New York Mets, the Arizona Diamondbacks or Atlanta Braves.
In last night’s game against Pittsburgh, the Brewers scored their only run on Jake Bauers’ solo home run.
On the mound, the Brewers’ Freddy Peralta pitched 5 1/3 innings and took the loss, allowing 2-runs on 2 hits, striking out 7 and walking 2. His final strikeout in the 6th inning gave him 200 for the season, giving him back-to-back 200 strikeout seasons.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy talked about Peralta getting 200 strikeouts in back-to-back seasons.
Murphy also discussed his decision to let Peralta go out in the 6th to get his 200th strikeout of the season.
Murphy said that in a year where the Brewers had 17 pitchers make at least one start, Peralta was a rock.
Murphy then talked about Peralta’s final start of the regular season.
The Brewers wrap up their series with the Pirates today. It’s an 11 a.m. pre-game and 11:40 first pitch on 1440 and 101.9 WNFL.
