(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana – The Marquette University men’s golf team tied for sixth at the Kampen-Cosler Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in the Purdue Fall Invitational.
The Golden Eagles shot a combined 4-over 292 in Monday’s final round after posting a 4-under 284 in the second round on Sunday afternoon. Senior Max Lyons led the way for MU on Monday with a 2-under 70 and tied with junior Johan Widal for the team lead at even-par for the event.
Widal shot consecutive 1-under 71s in his final two rounds to conclude his second NCAA Division I event. After beginning his Monday with a bogey on the par-3 fifth hole, Widal posted a clean card for the rest of the round, including birdies on the par-4 14th and the par-5 fourth holes. Lyons and sophomore Ryan Banas each notched a team-best three birdies on Monday.
Senior Patrick Adler tied for 24th after finishing at 3-over par following a 4-over 76 on Monday. The native of Winnetka, Illinois was one of four players in the field to shoot par-or-better in both rounds Sunday.
As a team, MU posted 44 birdies at the event, tied for the fourth-highest total in the field. Lyons had 12 himself to lead the Golden Eagles and tie for fifth among all competitors.
Indiana (-14, 850) won the event and was one of just two squads to finish under par alongside Miami University (Ohio), which finished at 10-under-par. Miami’s Michael Weber finished as individual medalist at 8-under.
