(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) VILLANOVA,Pennsylvania – The Marquette University men’s soccer team (5-3-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) earned a 3-2 win at Villanova (0-4-3, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) Friday afternoon in its BIG EAST opener.
The match started with Villanova striking first in the seventh minute finding the back of the net after sneaking pass MU’s backline.
In the 13th minute Villanova was called for a handball in their box, leading to a penalty kick for Marquette. Mitar Mitrovic took the PK and found the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1.
More intense action continued through the early stages of the first half with Villanova getting called for a foul in their box after Abdoul Karim Pare tracked down an aerial ball. The foul resulted in MU getting rewarded with another penalty kick. Mitrovic found the back of the net for his second time of the match as he took the PK, giving the Golden Eagles a 2-1 advantage.
In the 33rd minute Villanova tied the score at 2-2 after finding the back of the net when one of the Wildcats found themselves one-on-one with MU goalkeeper Marten Brink.
Ryan Amond netted the game winning goal in the 67th minute with a left foot missile from outside of the top of the box.
