BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay is on the clock, with 216 days until the start of the 2025 NFL Draft.
And what’s being called a unique way to take it in, is about to begin.
Brown County Campgrounds will soon be accepting reservations for next year’s event.
On a site at the Reforestation Camp Campground, Discover Green Bay’s Nick Meisner says signs of the season are all around.
“The organizers of the event really want to make sure that the draft is unique to the destination. And what’s more unique to a Wisconsin destination than camping?” asked Nick Meisner, Discover Green Bay VP of Digital Marketing and Communications.
Brown County officials agree.
“The hotel rooms are filled up. There’s a lot of options for airBnBs, but what about all the people that have made that investment in the RVs that are sitting in their driveway? We’ve had calls from people all across the nation of people looking to travel with their RV to this area, to see the draft in a unique environment,” said Matt Kriese, Brown County Parks Director.
Matt Kriese says at 9 a.m. on September 24, the county will start taking reservations online, or over the phone. Campsites will cost $100 per night, with a three night minimum stay.
“We expect things to fill up relatively quickly. Again, 250 total sites. Once they’re full, they’re full,” said Kriese.
Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach says campgrounds will open on April 18, which is about two weeks ahead of schedule.
“We all know that with Northeast Wisconsin weather, we’re not sure yet. It’s kind of like flip the coin, and see what happens. We’ll be prepared for whatever ends up happening,” said Troy Streckenbach, Brown County Executive.
“One thing that we can’t guarantee our campers is that they’re going to have water at their site. Make sure that you have water in your tank. Make sure you have your propane tanks filled, in case you need furnaces,” said Kriese.
No matter what the weather brings, the draft is on its way.
“This is a year long commercial for Brown County, and the greater Green Bay area to showcase what we have to offer. So, these unique opportunities for staying here are just a truly great thing for all the fans that will be traveling to Green Bay,” said Meisner.
Officials say the camping revenue from the draft will bring in about $325,000 to Brown County, which is part of the much larger economic impact for the state, which is about $94 million.
