(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) – The Marquette University women’s soccer team (2-5-2, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) wraps up its three-match homestand and opens BIG EAST play in a busy week for the Golden Eagles.
MU takes on St. Thomas (4-3-1, 0-0-0 Summit League) at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19 in the non-conference finale prior to traveling to Butler (5-2-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) for the league opener at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday, Sept. 22.
Homestand Off To Solid Start
Marquette is 1-0-1 to begin its season-long three-match homestand after a 4-0 victory over Mercyhurst and a 1-1 draw with Milwaukee.
Each of MU’s four goal scorers (Tess O’Connell – 2, Carly Christopher, Brooke Bisko and Ella McAleenan) in the last two outings found the back of the net for their respective first scores at Marquette.
In net, Chloe Olson combined to make six saves and allowed just one goal in all but two minutes in net.
MU’s four goals in the win over Mercyhurst were its most since a 4-1 victory at Butler on Sept. 25, 2022 and surpassed its total (3) in the first seven outings in 2024.
Lineup Featuring New Faces
Through the first nine matches of the year, 20 different players have earned at least one starting assignment and of that group, 11 have made their respective first-ever starts for Marquette (multiple collegiate debuts).
Just five players – Emily Fix, Tess O’Connell, Adrianna Alberts, Kiara Clarke and Mia Haertle have started all nine matches.
Injuries have also been a factor in lineup combinations, with nine players missing at least one match, including a trio (Ruhland, Downs, Keiper) who are done for the season. Maggie Starker and Emily McCarthy have also yet to see action because of injury.
