(LEARFIELD/247NEWSSOURCE) – The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-1 on Tuesday night but still saw their magic number to clinch the NL Central Division drop to 1 with a Cubs 4-3 loss to Oakland.
Garrett Mitchell drove in the team’s only run with a triple in the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1.
Philadelphia took the lead for good with a 2-run home run by Bryce Harper with Kyle Schwarber on base.
Frankie Montas got saddled with the loss after giving up three runs on six hits while striking out 10 batters over five-and-two-thirds innings.
Montas talked about facing a tough Phillies lineup.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy talked about the job Montas did.
Chicago faces Oakland this afternoon and a Cubs loss would give the Brewers the NL Central Title even before they set foot on the field for their game tonight.
Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins said that it will be interesting sitting around, seeing if they clinch with a loss by the Cubs Wednesday afternoon.
He said that the team would rather win and get in.
Freddy Peralta takes the mound with his 11-and-8 record and 3.75 ERA.
Philly sends Aaron Nola to the bump, who is 12-and-8 with a 3.62 ERA.
