(WTAQ-WLUK) — A renewable natural gas plant in Hilbert is the first of its kind in Wisconsin.
Archaea Energy, a subsidiary of bp and GFL Environmental announced that their joint venture-owned renewable natural gas plant in Hilbert came online in August.
The Green Meadows plant, which is adjacent to the the Hickory Meadows landfill, captures biogas produced from the decomposition of organic waste in the landfill and converts it to renewable natural gas.
This plant can process up to 4,800 standard cubic feet of landfill gas per minute into renewable natural gas, which can be used as a substitute for diesel fuel in vehicles, for power generation, as a heating source and in many industrial applications.
